What If?
On November 2 is the commemoration of all the faithful departed. We will remember our beloved dead who have been a part of our lives. We thank them for the good memories. Also, we are hoping that their sins are forgiven and that they are already in heaven.
As for us who are left behind by loved ones and friends, all we can do is offer prayers that they may rest in peace. It is hoped that we do this not only during All Souls’ Day but also everyday. Those in purgatory surely need our prayers.
This will be the 12th year for us to commemorate the passing of my husband. He was a supportive partner and a good father to our children. Looking back, I’m so thankful for having him in my life. We had a happy marriage despite the challenges that came our way.
There are times that I would ask myself what if he is still alive today? Will he survive the pandemic despite his bad health condition? With the advancement of new technology, will he be a techie savvy teacher? Being a sports enthusiast, would he enjoy online updates with what is happening with his favorite NBA and PBA teams? Would he enjoy Netflix and other streaming services? I would like to say yes to some of my what ifs because I know my husband well. But truly only God knows what the future holds if and only if he is still alive.
Sad to say, he passed away due to health reasons at the age of 39. God may have different plans for us but I’m thankful that I have a supportive family and friends who are there for me and my children. My children were still on their elementary years when he passed. Now, my eldest is already working, the other one is on her last year in college. I am sure my husband would have been proud of them.
On another note, here’s a short prayer for our beloved dead and their loved ones:
Dear Lord, we pray for our dear beloved dead that they may rest in peace. Please forgive their iniquities and may you welcome them in heaven along with your angels.
We thank you for the treasured memories we had with them. We are forever grateful for their presence in our life.
We also pray for those who were left behind that they may be given strength in accepting their fate.
May they be taken care of and supported by their families and friends thus easing their helplessness.
Lord, May your grace and mercy fill the void of their loneliness.
This we pray in Jesus mighty name, Amen.
