That in All places, we encounter God
Among the many concerns brought up from the previous synodal consultations in 2021, was the common observation that pastoral workers are unaccommodating or unwelcoming. Being stewards of the church, our priests received this feedback with positive tone and from the series of presbyterium meetings, the concern has been discussed a couple of times.
The bitter truth surely did not hinder our local shepherds but instead urged them to walk with the people about their concern. It has been agreed to assist the pastoral workers through a continuous formation to strengthen their love for the people as every place is considered to be an encounter with the Lord. The faithful must always see Christ in every person thus within this formation, the idea to come up with a handbook for pastoral workers sprung.
Fr. Jose Junar dela Victoria, Judicial Vicar of the archdiocese, was designated for the drafting of the handbook. During their Archdiocesan Pastoral Council meetings, they have discussed the importance of the said handbook to create a system in facilitating the transfer of parish priests come 2024.
The spirit of stewardship as we understand, is the expression of gratitude to a loving God. Thus, it is very reassuring that the formation begins with the priest themselves. This handbook challenges everyone to be good stewards of one another as a loving church.
Still a work in progress, the basic framework was already presented in the most recent presbyterium meeting. Some of our parish priests have already given their comments and input.
While we eagerly await for the final copy, let us continue to pray for our dear shepherds in the Archdiocese of Davao.
