The Glorious Assumption of Mary – Our Hope and Future Glory

The Dogma of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM), defined by Venerable Pope Pius XII on November 1, 1950 in his apostolic constitution Munificentissimus Deus (Most Bountiful God), is the belief that Our Lady was taken up – body and soul – into heaven at the end of her earthly life. One of the biblical bases for this dogma is Revelation 12, which depicts a woman clothed with the sun, crowned with stars, and giving birth to the male child who will rule the nations. This woman is seen as a symbol of both the BVM and the holy mother, the Church.

The good news about this Feast is that, we too body and soul will be in heaven when our time comes. It is one blessing, from our Most Bountiful God, that we share with Mary, our Blessed Mother. The assumption of her body and soul is a preview of what will happen to us at the end of time, that is, if we remain faithful – to our baptismal promises. We, too, will see our bodies and souls glorified when Jesus Christ comes to judge the living and the dead if we are found worthy of this honor and glory. Let us rejoice and celebrate this our hope and future glory. Happy Fiesta to all in Our Lady of the Assumption Parish – Davao City. Viva Jesus, viva Maria!
