Grandparents Day
Most grandparents do not know that July 23 is Grandparents Day. Their days are getting shorter so children, make their lives as pleasant, and as memorable as possible. Remember that 30 years from now you will be in the same spot your parents are in now. Writer Joseph Heller said of a grandfather, “He was going to live forever or die in the attempt.” Redd Foxx once wrote, “health nuts are going to feel stupid someday lying in hospital beds dying of nothing.” The point is we should encourage our grandparents to enjoy their remaining years and let them know that they have our full support and understanding.
Light message regarding old age can be medicinal. Examples:
“Anyone can get old. All you have to do is to live long enough,” Groucho Marx
“Don’t worry about middle age, you’ll outgrow it,” Laurence Peter
“Old age isn’t so bad when you consider the alternative,” Maurice Chevalier
“It’s not that I’m afraid to die. I just don’t want to be there when it happens,” Woody Allen
“Youth is a wonderful thing. Too bad it is wasted on the young,” George Bernard Shaw
At twenty, we didn’t care what the world thought of us. At thirty, we start to worry about what it thinks of us. At forty and above, we realize that the world isn’t thinking of us at all.
They say life begins at forty but so do arthritis, bad back, bad eyesight, bad hearing and the habit of telling the same story 3 times to the same person in 30 minutes. Finally enjoy yourself because it’s later than you think.
Happy Grandparents Day, Lolo & Lola. We love you. We need you.
