Short Weekend, Everlasting Life
The long weekend, as many expect, is only so short compared to the everlasting life that Christ accomplished for us in the last days of his earthly life. When we truly enter into the celebration of the Holy Week and reach its peak at the Paschal Triduum, we will be brought back to our humble beginnings and see the journey of God’s love and compassion for us.
That is why, the best way to celebrate these solemn days is not to retreat into a secluded place at the beach or on a mountain and spend days of vacation alone by ourselves. While there is nothing bad in taling rest by ourselves and pray, we can spare other days of the year for that. Let us take note that the holiday is intended to celebrate with the christian community. Nothing more valuable can replace our attendance in listening to the Word of God in the liturgy of the Church especially during the Sacred Paschal Triduum – Thursday of the Lord’s Supper, Friday of the Passion of the Lord, and Easter Vigil and Encuentro. It would best help us to deepen our appreciation of this high point of our Christian life to be intent on listening and be observant of the words, prayers, symbols and gestures during the celebrations.
Thanks in advance to our lay volunteers in the parishes and to our priests who come together to make our Church celebrations become more meaningful. May the life, passion, death and resurrection of Christ be our strength in living as witnesses of his saving mystery!
