Jesus: Merciful God

The Divine Mercy Devotees of the St. Mary of the Perpetual Rosary Parish, Buhangin celebrated the Divine Mercy Sunday, the first Sunday after Easter. They started the celebration with a procession of the Divine Mercy image around the vicinity of the Parish which was followed by the Eucharistic Celebration at 6:00 o’clock in the morning and was presided by, Rev. Fr. Dionisio C. Tabiliran, parish priest. Immediately after Mass, the veneration of the image followed.

On this day, Jesus requested that the image be venerated, as it represents the risen Christ whose hands and feet bear the marks of the crucifixion. As Jesus said to St. Faustina, “paint an image according to the pattern you see, with the signature: JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU. I desire that this image be venerated, first in your chapel, and (then) throughout the world” (Diary, 47). The image of the Divine Mercy originated from a vision of St. Faustina on Feb. 22, 1931.

Meanwhile, the Divine Mercy Apostolates of the Archdiocese of Davao commemorated the feast with a Holy Mass held at San Pedro Cathedral at 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon officiated by the Archbishop of Davao, Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D. Novena masses were observed from April 7 to 14 by the devotees.

Divine Mercy Sunday was celebrated to spread continuously the unfathomable mercy of God. “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed” John 20:19-31.

Let us confidently say in our hearts “JESUS I TRUST IN YOU”. (Celine Tesorio)
