A Call to Proclaim the Word of God
The Lectors, Commentators and Psalmists (LecComPs) Ministry of St. Mary of the Perpetual Rosary Parish held a Recollection and Commissioning at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary on April 16, 2023. This event was conducted exclusively for old and new members of the LecComPs Ministry.
The morning session was facilitated by Ms. Gina Stella Aleonar-Balbuena, Holy Cross of Davao College Campus Minister, Professor of ReEd Subject and LCM member of St. Francis of Assissi Parish, Maa, Davao City as the resource speaker for the recollection.
She discussed about the basic functions and roles of the Preachers of the Word (POW) which the LecComPs are known today.
Sis. Gina placed emphasis that being a LecComP requires preparation. As a server at the Holy Mass, you need to reflect on the Scripture that you are going to proclaim. She also taught the basic etiquette that the LecComps need to follow and the ways on how to proclaim the Word of God properly.
Open Forum followed after lunch which was facilitated by the Spiritual Director of the LecComPs, Rev. Fr. Romeo “Romy” Coronel, OSA. Queries, clarifications and concerns were being answered by Fr. Romy during the open forum. He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the participants for their support and active participation.
Lector and Commentator (LecCom) Coordinator, Bro. Roger Adan introduced the new system and organizational flow of the ministry. Under the LecCom Division, there are five (5) Clusters. Each cluster consists of two (2) Zones with respective name of coordinators.
Cluster 1 (Zones 1 & 2) – Sally Beloy,
Cluster 2 (Zones 3 & 4) – Flory Palaca,
Cluster 3 (Zones 5 & 6) – Preny Alinsub,
Cluster 4 (Zones 7 & 10) – Villa Alalong
Cluster 5 (Zones 8 & 9) – Maximo Galorio.
The cluster coordinators are tasked to monitor and evaluate the commitment of the Lectors and Commentators under their respective zones. They are also responsible to assign schedules for LecComs during the daily and Sunday Masses at the Parish. Since the parish has five (5) regular Sunday masses three (3) Cebuano and two (2) English masses, each cluster is assigned to one mass. There will be rotation of schedule every month. For the Psalmists’ assignment, the Psalmist Coordinator, Ms. Veron Merlas is in-charge.
To end that fruitful day, the attendees of the whole day event attended the 5:30 pm English Mass for their Commissioning wherein Fr. Romy Coronel presided the Eucharistic Celebration. The participants made their promises and commitment as members of the Lectors, Commentators and Psalmist Ministry.
There were 204 newly commissioned Lectors and Commentators and 23 Psalmists bringing to a total of 227 participants. The Ministry happily welcomes their new members to the family. (Allyza Hope Tabigue | Photos by Hermie Mapute)
