Fatima Church Calls For Donations

Davao City, Philippines — The Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Boulevard suffered a devastating fire incident last March 5, 2023 leaving the church building severely damaged. According to initial reports, the fire spread quickly and engulfed the church’s altar area and roof, causing extensive damage to the building’s interior.

In a statement released by the parish priest, Fr. Severino “Ben” Capulong, he expressed his deep sadness over the incident but also shared a message of hope and faith for the parishioners and the community.

“We are deeply saddened by the fire that has ravaged our beloved church, but we remain hopeful and steadfast in our faith. Our Lady of Fatima, who we believe has been watching over us all these years, will help us rise from the ashes and rebuild our church,” said Fr. Capulong.

The parishioners of Our Lady of Fatima Parish have expressed their sorrow over the incident, with many offering of prayers and support for the church’s rebuilding. The church has been a pillar of the community for many years, providing spiritual guidance and assistance to those in need.

The Director of the Archdiocesan Social Action Center of Davao Rev. Fr. Leonardo “Bong” Dublan Jr. urged the community to come together during this difficult time and support each other in rebuilding the church.

“We will need the help of everyone in the community to rebuild Our Lady of Fatima Parish. Let us come together and show our strength and resilience in the face of this tragedy,” he said.

“For weeks we’ve been trying to assist sa pagpangandam sa pagresponse sa mga nasunogan sa Piapi. Karon napiangan jud ang Fatima Parish kay sila naman pud ang nasunugan, they don’t have any place to do their repacking and then kay nasunogan sila mas concern nila kaayo karon ang pagpabalik sa normal operation sa ilang parokya.” he added.

The church is calling for those who are willing to donate in-kind materials to drop off their donations at San Antonio De Padua Parish, Holy Cross drive, Brgy. San Antonio Agdao, Davao City.

The donation drive aims to help those affected by the incident by providing essential goods and supplies. The parish is accepting any donation that can help provide relief to those in need, including food, medicine and cash.

Even in the midst of such a difficult time, it is important to remember that hope can be found in the kindness and support of others, in the strength of the community, and in the belief that a brighter future is possible.
