Making Life Worth Living
February is Pro-life month and it is only fitting to remind ourselves on the importance of the gift of life. Even before we were conceived on our mother’s womb, the Lord already foresaw our time here on earth (Psalms 139:16 “you saw me before I was born. The days allotted to me had all been recorded in your book before any of them had begun.”). Our life is part of God’s plan and no one is allowed to take or end it. Instead, we should take care of this precious gift… our life. Our mother and father took care of us during conception up until the time we can take care of ourselves. But when we are old enough, we, then, have the responsibilities of preserving our life until the time God will take it on our deathbed.
We should take care of our life by being healthy and acting in ways that are pleasing to God. Being healthy means eating the right kind and amount of food, exercising and avoiding things that are not good for our body like over working, drinking and smoking, among other things. Aside from taking good care of our physical body, it is also beneficial to take care of our mental health. When pandemic came, mental health was one concern that affected most of us. Anxiety and depression were common occurrence for young and old during lock down and even until now. In fact, this led to suicide attempts and even death which was high during the past two years. We can address it by seeking professional help and being supportive to our family member or friends facing such dilemma.
On the other hand, pro-life also means taking good care of our spiritual life. We can do it by taking the time to pray, by attending church and by studying the word of God. We should also try to live what we learn about the Lord and share it to others. Doing so, is one way of making life worth living. May our purpose here on earth be pleasing to God as we encourage one another to do it all our lives.
Below is a short prayer of mine thanking God for the gift of life.
Thank you, Lord, for the gift of life.
May we be reminded daily to treasure it and live it to the full.
May our life be a source of inspiration for others to see.
Forgive us for the times that we mistreat our body and soul.
Instill in us to live in harmony with human and nature.
Light our path always that we may walk in righteousness.
Help us preserve not only our own life but every human being.
All this we pray, in Jesus name our Lord.
Amen.
