Be seekers of truth
Epiphany is the manifestation of Christ to the gentiles. The Magi, as they were called, must have been searching and longing for the Lord who is the King of all Kings. The Holy Spirit must have touched the very depths of their being and made them seekers of the Truth. They must have been learned men. Their knowledge helped them in their discernment. Their interior life coupled with their knowledge and daring launched them into a long journey that greatly inconvenienced themselves for the Lord. This journey probably took them over the fertile crescent of the Middle East or through the great Arabian desert to reach Bethlehem. Their eyes kept before the goal coupled with the virtue of fortitude; they reaped the greatest reward, to behold the Messiah.
Many today, perhaps out of indifference or lukewarmness see eternity with God as threat to their freedom and happiness in their existence would shun interior life, thus discernment of the will of God is neglected. It is the interior life of the children of God that deepens friendship with God. With this relationship, we can keep our eyes on God’s standard, not our egoism which only generates greed, envy, and unhappiness. If we persevere, no amount of difficulty will stop us from corresponding with grace like the Magi. It was even possible for them to discern the questionable sincerity of the heart of King Herod to worship Christ when they would find Him. Moreover, the Magi left Bethlehem and took a different route to avoid King Herod. They lived to please God. So must we, so that like the three Wise Men, we will someday be welcomed in the company of God and His saints.
