Christmas is Near!

Only few days left and we will be celebrating Christmas. This year, we should be thankful that we survived Covid-19 and would be able to celebrate with our family and friends. Health protocols are more lenient these days where the use of face mask in public places like malls and parks are now voluntary. However, we should still be careful as new Covid variants are emerging.

As we celebrate Gaudete Sunday today, we are invited to rejoice that Christmas is near. Indeed, we have so much to rejoice for. The past two years was full of uncertainty because of the pandemic. Today we are challenged to move forward and to live with the new normal.

In our Christmas celebration this year, may we not forget the real meaning of the season that is to honor Jesus in our midst. He is the reason for the occasion. As we celebrate Him, may we be joyful for His presence among us as we spread His love to everyone. Let us be more generous not only on material things but also in kindness with words and actions. More than anything else, let us forgive those who offended us, one way or the other. May peace reign in our hearts this Christmas.

As I end this article, I am sharing with you below a poem entitled On Christmas Day by Melissa Tumino that was posted at Think About Such Things:

On Christmas Day

A small babe within a manager lay
The hope of all nations was born on Christmas day
A King in swaddling clothes
Here to heal the world of its woes
Oh, how great is Christmas day
That my wandering heart no longer strays
I found my peace in Him alone
The babe who now sits on a throne
God’s Son brought to all
So, that He could restore us from the fall
Praise and glory to the King
Let the angels rejoice and shepherds play their string
For a small babe within a manger lay
The hope of all nations was born on Christmas day
