Praying for our Beloved Dead
November 2 is All Souls Day, the day where we remember our beloved dead. Here in Davao City, our government already allowed to visit the grave of our loved ones on that particular day but with a reminder to still wear a face mask. It is with hope that this year’s commemoration will be orderly and we will not have a surge of Covid afterwards.
On All Souls Day let us offer prayers to those who have gone before us through sickness, accidents or even those who have taken their own lives.
On another note, it has been reported by the World Health Organization (WHO) that every year 703,000 people take their own life and there are many more people who attempt suicide. Every suicide is a tragedy that affects families, communities and entire countries and has long-lasting effects on the people left behind. Suicide occurs throughout the lifespan and was the fourth leading cause of death among 15-29 year-olds globally in 2019.
With that let us implore God’s providence for those who have the tendency to commit suicide that they may be enlightened by the Holy Spirit, seek medical help, and that they may have a supportive family to depend on in times of crisis in life.
I am sharing with you below a short poem by Antonio Talbert that was posted at letyourlovegrow.com about loss of loved one:
Our earthly loss is always a heavenly gain
Although our hearts hurt and mourn in humanly pain
The fact still remains the same
That Heaven Has Gained more Love
To sprinkle down from above
