Listen to the Voice of Creation
This year’s theme of Season of Creation invites us to simply listen to the Voice of Creation. The questions “What have I done? What have you done?” make us realize how we really care for our common home. All of us are affected in this global crisis caused by climate change. Now is the time to do something to prevent the worst thing that could possibly happen in the next generation.
As we culminated the Season of Creation last October 9, 2022, the Archdiocese of Davao Social Action Ministry and other GKK Servant Leaders visited once more and planted additional seedlings at the Riverside of Panigan – Tamugan River in Brgy. Tawan-Tawan, Baguio District. Fr. Leonardo “Bong” Dublan, the Director of the Social Action, emphasized that even though we celebrated the culmination of the Season of Creation, it doesn’t mean that we also stop our way of caring for creation. He added that, our activity is called Tree Caring and not Tree planting, because we will continue to plant more trees and grow them in a regular basis in that area, that includes weeding out thick grass and watering the seedlings until they grow fully. Everybody is welcome to join in that advocacy; parishes, center organizations, schools, religious and Lay Organizations, etc. The objective of the activity is to make us develop the sense of responsibility in taking care for the environment and help us think of others, as we are called to leave a legacy for our future generation.
There is still hope to save our common home. As stewards, we have to live our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork (Laudato Si 217). Thus, it is necessary for us to act decisively, for we are reaching a “breaking point”. The Voice of Creation is calling us to open our ears and move our hearts to stop the abuses in our ecology because if not we will all suffer the consequences of our misconducts to nature. Drought, flooding, hurricane, intense and frequent heat waves are sending us a strong message: LISTEN TO THE VOICE OF CREATION! (Bro. Alcris Panganiban)
