Unconditional Love for Mothers
Today, May 8, 2022 we are honoring our mothers as we celebrate Mother’s Day. Usually mothers’ are nurturers who will give everything and sacrifice for the sake of their children. We all long for a considerate, caring and a loving mother. But we are in an imperfect world and mothers also have their flaws and what they need from us is understanding. It is only fitting to respect them and give them our unconditional love in return. If there are problems between mothers and children in their relationship, it is hoped that it can be resolved through heart to heart talks.
Indeed, mothers are gifts and blessings to us, just like Mother Mary whose yes to God paved the way for our salvation. It is not luck that we become mothers; we are planned and chosen by God to be one.
On another note, the harrowing experience of Mama Mary of seeing his Son suffering on the cross may also be the experience of some mothers of today whose children might be suffering from severe ailment or any crisis in life. May they find comfort in knowing everything will be okay through God’s mercy.
On this occasion let us pamper our mothers. We may treat them out for a meal or snack as we are now allowed to go out despite pandemic but with precautions and standard protocols or we may cook their favorite meal or let them rest as we do the usual household chores for them.
May we give importance to our mothers not only during mother’s day but everyday in our lives.
Below is a poem about A Mothers Love that I would like to share with you that was posted at xavier.edu:
A Mother’s Love
There are times when only a mother’s love
Can understand our tears,
Can soothe our disappoints
And calm all of our fears.
There are times when only a mother’s love
Can share the joy we feel
When something we’ve dreamed about
Quite suddenly is real.
There are times when only a mother’s faith
Can help us on life’s way
And inspire in us the confidence
We need from day to day.
For a mother’s heart and a mother’s faith
And a mother’s steadfast love
Were fashioned by the angels
And sent from God above.

Moreover, here’s a comforting prayer for mothers that I gathered and “Used with permission from Blessed Catholic Mom.”
A Catholic Mother’s Prayer
Dear Lord,
Thank you for the gift of my life.
I come before You knowing that I am weak and wanting to be strong. As St. Paul says, I often do what I do not want to and fail to do what I should. I ask You to forgive me of my sins, which pull me away from You and distance me from my children, my husband, and others.
I know that with Your help and guidance I can be who You created me to be.
Thank you for giving me the gift of my vocation of motherhood. Thank you for my husband and our child(ren).
Please help me to be the mom You created me to be. May I seek Your guidance and help to be a wonderful mother to my child(ren) and set a good example of love and faithfulness to You.
Thank you for being with me in times of trouble.
Help me to remember to turn to you frequently, especially when I am feeling stressed, frustrated, or sad. Help me to be uplifted at these moments by thinking of Your great love for me and know that the moments will soon pass.
Help me to remember that there is a rainbow after the rain-that You are ever faithful and that You want me to draw to You, seek You, and be a light to myself and to others.
Thank you for being with me in times of joy.
Help me to remember You in times of joy as well and not just seek You out when I am troubled.
Thank you for Your great love for me-a love that resulted in Your immense suffering and Your death on the cross for my sins.
Help me to see Your sacrifice as a gift of love for me and as an example of how I can sacrifice for others out of love for them.
Thank you, Lord, for the gift of the sacraments that bring me closer to You.
May I receive them frequently and with a heart open to You and Your will for me.
Thank you for Your continual guidance of and love for me and for my family. Thank you for always providing for all of our needs and many of our wants as well.
Help me to recognize and appreciate all that You do for us.
Thank you for Your great love for me and for my family. May I always be aware of Your love for us and live my life each day with confidence in Your love and mercy.
Help me to be a good example of faith to my family and to those around me.
May I always have gratitude in my heart for You and all that You do for us.
Thank you, Lord. Amen.
