GKK Our Lady of Peace – Nova Tierra Village celebrated its 32nd Annual Fiesta
“Birhen Maria, Kalig-on sa Kinabuhing Piniyalan sa Ginasahang Katilingban” – this was the theme for this year’s 32nd Annual Fiesta Celebration of GKK Queen of Peace at Nova Tierra Village Brgy. Vicente Hizon Sr., Davao City last May 13, Friday.
The GKK kickstarted their Fiesta Celebration with a “diana” which is the act of roaming around the village to wake the villagers through a loud festive noise and dancing which was followed by a Eucharistic Celebration presided by Rev. Fr. Leonardo “Bong” Dublan Jr. – Parish priest of St. Joseph the Worker Parish Sasa.
Father Bong focused his homily on the importance of Communion in the life and activities of the Church, especially on the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) or the GKKs amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The priest also expressed his gratitude for the joyful fiesta celebration stating that no pandemic nor disease will stop the continuous love and devotion of the people despite the hardships experienced in the previous years.
Relating from the Gospel of St. John, Father Bong stated that we should not let worry take control of our lives, rather we should learn to trust God and Jesus.
With the recently concluded national and local elections, Father Bong emphasized the significance of Communion as the mission of Christian Catholics.
“Our Mission is to strengthen our communion – that this communion will beget the sense of mission of our community” Father Bong said in his homily.
Father Bong also called for Communion and reconciliation, especially after the elections wherein political colors caused the communities to be divided. He added that we should accept the results.
“Dili unta kagubot ang bunga sa eleksyon, kon dili, mu-move on kita ngadto sa communion. For the call of the church is greater than the “unity” of one political party, but the communion that moves towards reconciliation” – he added.
Father ended his homily hoping that the effects of the elections would not divide and hinder the activities of the GKK.
He further added that after the elections, it is now the time to reflect on oneself and to move to reconciliation.
The Eucharistic Celebration was followed by a community “salu-salo” in the vicinity of the chapel which was attended by the mass goers and the members of the GKK. (Ivan Klar Braga)
