Equipping Davaoeños With Caring Abilities for the Abused
The Mary Queen of Heaven Missionaries through their superior Sr. Corazon J. Salazar has had talks with the archbishop of Davao, Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., since November last year to begin their mission here in the archdiocese and as a result of these discussions among the sisters came here in Davao last March 17 hoping that she’d be able to begin planting the seeds of their mission.
The apostolate of these sisters is to rescue children and women who are abused especially sexually and being trafficked or forced to enter into trafficking themselves due to poverty. In doing their apostolate, they have houses in Manila, Bicol, Iloilo, Samar and Cebu which shelter children and women and help them with their healing.
Various activities and livelihood are taught to them and some even go to school and many have already graduated. Sr. Bridget Abing on her first months here in Davao had already met with some of the Non-Government Agencies who also advocate the same mission which is to protect and rescue these vulnerable and abused women and children.
Archbishop Valles during his shepherd’s time last May 2, 2022 during the presbyterium meeting has encouraged the priests especially those who are assigned in parishes to help Sr. Bridget in at least identifying these victims and also giving all the help they can to this mission.
Sr. Bridget, on the other hand, knows that it will take a long while to establish a house here in Davao and what they plan to do is to equip linkages, people around these victims of the best ways and approaches on how to help them. This way, we help build environments which are SAFE for them to go to with people who are SAFE to be with. (CMAC)
