Pope Francis reappoints Archbishop Valles to a Vatican post
The Holy Father has reappointed His Excellency Most Reverend Romulo G. Valles, D.D., Archbishop of Davao, as Member of the Congregatio de Cultu Divino Disciplina Sacramentorum (Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments).
This reappointment of Archbishop Valles by the Holy Father Pope Francis was conveyed by His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy Father, to the Prefect of the Congregatio de Cultu Divino Disciplina Sacramentorum, His Excellency Most Reverend Arthur Roche who, in turn, conveyed it to Archbishop Valles in his letter of 18 March 2022. In said letter, Archbishop Roche said “E con gioia che accolgo la notizia, ricevuta da Sua Eminenza il Cardinale Pietro Parolin, Segretario di Stato, della decisione del Santo Padre di prorogare la Sua nomina a Membro di questa Congregazione per altri cinque anni (ad quinquennium).” We note that the Holy Father Pope Francis appointed Archbishop Valles to this position in this Dicastery six years ago.
This Dicastery of the Roman Curia of the Holy See – the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments – handles matters regarding the liturgical dimensions of Church life, particularly in matters of fostering and safeguarding the discipline and proper celebration of the liturgy.
The reappointment was received by Archbishop Valles on 29 March 2022. In his letter to Archbishop Roche, Archbishop Valles expressed his surprise at being given another five years to serve as Member of the Dicastery. In the same letter, he asked the Prefect of the Dicastery to convey to His Eminence Cardinal Parolin and to the Holy Father his humble acceptance of the reappointment, saying that it is a joy to serve the Church in this manner, that is, somebody like him to represent the Philippines and this part of Asia in the Dicastery.
