Mission Accomplished

Our dear Msgr. Bonie Burlaza has accomplished his mission. As he returned to the Father, he will be remembered as one who spent his life in touching lives. Countless celebrations of the sacraments, thousands of those whom he baptized, boundless work of evangelization as he used the pulpit and the media of social communications, a number of modules in formation, leadership roles in the pastoral programs – all these leave a mark in his 52 years of priestly ministry in the Archdiocese of Davao.

To say that his mission is accomplished would mean taking the challenge to make into reality our individual mission. Without necessarily becoming a priest, each one is called to live by the baptism one has received. Even an ordinary citizen can now use the media of social communications in spreading the good news. Leadership roles can be applied starting as a family member or in one’s small community, be it religious or civic. By one’s witness of honesty and dedication in one’s vocation, in religious life or married life or single blessedness, anybody can accomplish his mission in his own way.

But the making of a priest like that of the late Msgr. Bonie Burlaza is something that the Church can continue to offer. In the midst of his human weakness, may his life become an inspiration to many in this special year of mission.

With Mama Mary’s “Fiat”, we thank Msgr. Bonie and his family for offering his life in the mission of the Church.
