Fiat

From the Blessed Virgin Mary’s “Fiat” (Be it done), she actively took part in the work of God’s redemption of mankind. All her thoughts, words and actions were directed toward the fulfilment of God’s plan. She put herself at the service of God’s will.

In this world where the individual self is given priority, whose will is it that man does? In this time when everyone claims for his freedom, whose will does a person do?

Saying one’s “Fiat” makes someone sensitive to the needs of others, especially during this season of Lent. This is in fact the reason for prayer and fasting, to show concrete action for the less fortunate. There have been a lot of them in this time of post- pandemic and natural calamities.

Saying one’s “Fiat” leads someone to work for the common good. This is manifested in getting involved in political life without spreading division. The ongoing campaign for local and national elections is an opportunity to exercise the challenge to let God’s will of unity be lived.

Saying one’s “Fiat” inspires someone to be humble and patient in planting seeds of peace. This is true as we pray for peace deep within each one, among countries in conflict, especially Russia and Ukraine.

May the Annunciation of the Lord this coming Thursday allow all of us to imitate Mama Mary to say “Fiat”.
