The Baptism
In the liturgical calendar, today, the Sunday of the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord signals the end of Christmas season and the beginning of the Ordinary Time before Lent. Unlike our baptism which cleanses us of our sins and makes us incorporated into His Body, the Church, the Baptism of the Lord inaugurates His saving mission. Having been claimed by the Father as His beloved Son in whom God the Father’s favor rests, He now begins his ministry with the people and for the people. He starts to be with His flock to make their lives holy by His words and deeds.
As we begin the new year, let us make the Baptism of the Lord a reminder and inspiration to all of us, the baptized. Let this be our challenge to start anew in working together not only for our good as an individual but to work for the benefit of many. Let this beginning of the year give us vigor and wisdom to perform according to the plan of God for each one of us throughout the comings days. If we claim we are baptized, may our attitude and actions manifest our name as baptized Christians as we welcome the gift of the year 2022.
Mary, Mother of God, help us to live the meaning of our baptism.
