Davao City High to Celebrate 100th Foundation Anniversary in 2022

Davao City National High School (DCNHS), first known as the Davao Provincial High School, celebrates its centennial foundation anniversary on June 22, 2022.

City High, as it is popularly known, started in a nipa hut in Magallanes Street, Davao City way back in 1922. Now, it is the largest public school in Davao City and one of the largest in the Davao Region with more than 16,000 students at its present home in F. Torres St., Davao City.

DCNHS has graduated thousands of Dabawenyos through the years in line with its mission of “catering the needs of the community for basic education in preparing the youth for global competitiveness through the search of the National Culture of Excellence, thus, making it as the center for community transformation”.

The school, its faculty, and students have become part of the community and contributed immensely to the growth of Davao City. Many of its graduates have become excellent civic leaders, medical practitioners, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, engineers, teachers and, in all walks of life, have made themselves useful and productive citizens not only of Davao City but of other parts of the world as well.

Due to the limitations brought about by the pandemic, the DCNHS and, in partnership with, the DCNHS Alumni Association, Inc., have lined up a few exciting activities to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime milestone. All graduates are enjoined to take part in the activities and projects such as the DCNHS centennial celebration Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/LuntiAtGinto100Years); DCNHS centennial virtual launch on December 4, 2021 @ 4 pm via the Facebook page, centennial coffee table book; commemorative items, the batch outreach projects, a launching program for the 100-day countdown on March 15, a gallery exhibit, grand centennial celebration on June 22, 2022.

Since the exact founding date of DCNHS is unknown, it has never celebrated a founding anniversary. Honorable Councilor Maria Belen S. Acosta, a 1982 graduate of the school, authored a city council resolution declaring June 22, 1922 as the Founding Anniversary of the Davao City National High School.

The executive committee led by Dr. Nelson C. Magnaye of Batch ‘82, general chairman of the DCNHS alumni-initiated projects would like to express its profound appreciation to its event sponsors and to the benevolent Advertisers and Donors to the Coffee Table Book for the generous support extended. Likewise, sincerest gratitude goes to all the working committee members for sharing their precious time and expertise.
