Faith can move mountains

On the occasion of the birthday of Mama Mary, September 8, Thursday, a prayer for unity, solidarity and harmony, for God’s mercy and healing and for an end of the pandemic was participated by the different sectors in Davao through DXGN 89.9 Spirit FM broadcast and livestreaming.

What else can make a mother so happy than to see her children united, God-fearing and in good health. Different sectors from the government, military, business, Christian, Muslim, Lumad, drivers and vendors stormed heaven with heartfelt prayers.

In her opening message which was read by Annie Libres, DXGN 89.9 Spirit FM Program Head, Honorable Mayor Sarah Duterte wrote:

Madayaw!

On behalf of the City Government of Davao, I would like to extend my greetings to everyone tuning into DXGN 89.9 Spirit FM Davao and to also thank the Archdiocese of Davao, the Indigenous Peoples Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Davao, and our business, religious, health workers, and military sectors of Davao Region for gathering us all today in prayer for the end of Covid-19.

As we currently grapple with the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic, we stand firm against this adversity with faith and strength that we will persevere with love and hope towards the healing not only of our city, but of the whole world. In these trying times when various sectors struggle with the challenges brought about by the pandemic, we recognize the continuous and unceasing support of the church in providing assistance in our recovery and response strategies for the needs of our communities.

With God’s mercy and healing, it is my hope that we may stand united in prayer so that we may emerge from this pandemic as a stronger and more steadfast community filled with hope, love, and faith for a promising future in the new normal.

Daghang salamat and may God bless us all.

(sgd.) Sara Z. Duterte

This is the second time that this activity was done through DXGN 89.9 Spirit FM in this time of the pandemic. We continue to pray to be united and to be healed hoping that this pandemic will end. Our faith can move mountains.

In his closing message, the Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., Archbishop of Davao and CBCP President said:

“I am so happy to give this concluding message as we are about to close and conclude our special time of prayer together. Organized and coordinated by our radio station DXGN 89.9 Spirit FM, ang atong pinalangga nga catholic radio station dinhi sa Davao City ug mga silingan nga dapit. This special time is our collective prayer that we call our prayer for unity, harmony and solidarity for God’s mercy and healing and for an end of the covid-19 pandemic. My sincere thanks to all of you who gave your time and presence, you who have articulated your special prayer for all of us this evening.

I believe that our time of prayer tonight is very inspiring and very formative. First, it is collective we are acting together. This is another beautiful way of showing love and concern in a collective way. This means for me that together we are strong, that together we are resilient. That each one even our small and insignificant is valuable and important in this prayer done together. Second, related to togetherness is that we have created the atmosphere that no one feels alone. In this difficult times of the pandemic it is very easy for us to feel alone and abandoned. But in our collective prayer tonight we give the sense that everyone is loved and cared for. Loved and cared for by the Philippine National Police, our men and women in the PNP, by our health authorities, by our medical personnel in hospitals and clinics, by our business people, by priests and religious. No one is alone, we are all brothers and sisters, Christians, Muslims and IP’s. And third, in this collective act of prayer we do not only manifest the spirit of love and concern laterally or horizontally but most importantly vertically. We are drawn to the realization of the truth and reality that we have our God, our loving Lord, merciful and compassionate who is watching over us with so much love and mercy. And I can speak for the beautiful catholic tradition that in this prayer we also realized the loving and maternal care of the mother of our Lord and Savior, the Blessed Virgin Mary whose birthday we are remembering today. May God continue to bless us all.”
