J.A.B. sa St. Joseph Parish

The St. Joseph Parish, Sasa, Davao City was the second to respond to the call of our Archbishop, Most Reverend Bishop Romulo G. Valles, through circular letter #30 (Aug. 7, 2021) to Parish Priests to organize this Parish-based vaccination Center and offer Church facilities as the church’s contribution to ending this pandemic.

So the Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Leonardo A. Dublan, Jr. launched “Joint Action alang sa Bakuna sa Parokya” and it was held on August 14, 2021. The event started at 8:30 AM and ended at 7:00 PM and was held at the Holy Cross College of Sasa. A total of 957 vaccinees received their first dose of Sinovac.

The vaccine recipients included the parish staff, active GKK Servant Leaders, Mass Servers, Tigpasayon sa Pundok Banay and to individuals from Barangay Hizon, Barangay Pampanga and Barangay Sasa. Gate keepers and Pangulo sa Alagad members were the volunteers who helped facilitate the attendance, food and logistic needs.

Snacks were prepared for the vaccinees. Meals were also prepared for the volunteers, medical staff, PNP, Barangay Health Workers, Auxiliaries and others who helped in the event.

Cecilia Ramos, the Parish PSK Coordinator said that although the preparation was very short, she felt tired from taking care of the submitted lists from various GKK and from the lack of sleep and time.

The collaborative efforts made by the City Government of Davao, City Health office, Brgy. Hizon, Brgy. Pampanga and Brgy. Sasa, Brgy. Health Workers, PNP, and the Vaccination Team head, Gene Ando, RN, Dr. Ara Torrenueva, Gray Tillo, Mirasol Tiu and all the Medical staff of Davao Doctor’s Hospital made the parish-based vaccination program truly successful.

The organizers are grateful to the Administration of the Holy Cross College of Sasa, Inc. for allowing us to use the place. (Amelita C. Desquitado)
