Called to be Holy
Celebrating the month of September as vocation month usually makes us pray for the vocation to priesthood and religious life. Rightly so, we need to pray not only for our shepherds but that more and more will say yes to the invitation of Jesus for the rich harvest. Some of us are easily tempted to murmur when our requests for the administration of the sacraments and sacramentals are not immediately answered due to the lack of our priests. But have we contributed to encouraging and supporting our youth to enter the seminary? Have we shared our time in becoming formators to our future priests by sincerely leading our seminarians to a life of holiness?
Let us also remember that Pope Francis emphasizes that to be holy means to be happy. Holiness and happiness that comes from within, that has its source not from externals but from the conviction of God’s presence that is witnessed in one’s daily life of doing good to others is that which indicates true holiness. This is the holiness that is expressed in having confidence to be compassionate to others, to be sensitive to the needs of others and to be sincere and selfless even in times of crisis. Everyone is called to that holiness. haven’t you realized you and I are called to be happy? Haven’t you realized you and I are called to be holy?
