SPC Unveils First Academe-Based Animal Laboratory and Research Hub in Mindanao
After two years of conceptualization and construction, San Pedro College’s Pharmacy Department finally unveiled the first Animal Laboratory and Research Hub in Mindanao last May 13, 2021, SPC Ulas Campus.
The hub was officially opened through a ceremonial blessing led by Fr. Greg F. Gregory, OP, which prominent people from the institution also graced— the College President, Sr. Aida T. Frencillo, OP, the Dean of Pharmacy, Prof. Fatima May Tesoro, and the SPC Management Committee members.
SPC’s Animal Laboratory and Research Hub commits its services to provide scientific learning and a working environment that adheres to quality standards, developing and sustaining partnerships in research to the different departments of SPC and other institutions.
Also, the hub will be an avenue to conduct meaningful and quality measures in facilitating research, specifically in the bioassay, that will breed and utilize pure lab bred genetically modified animal models and plant extraction, drug discovery, and product formulation that will utilize the first ETHOS Solventless Microwave-Assisted Extraction in the Philippines-academe base.
Moreover, the Analytical Testing Services of the laboratory will provide testing services such as Physicochemical (Plant extraction, simple physic-chemical screening, HPLC, Ion Chromatographic analysis), Microbiologic (culture, subculture, MBC, MIC, Anti-viral), Molecular Biology (PCR), animal control facility uses, and animal breeding.
