San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish virtual Bible Quiz Bee 2021

San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish Celebrates National Bible Month 2021

Amidst the unprecedented events brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, the San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish Youth Council has lined up different activities regarding the celebration of the National Bible Month with the theme; “God’s Word Restores”.

The month-long celebration that was backed up by Presidential Proclamation No. 124 declared by incumbent President Rodrigo Duterte last January 5, 2017 aims to teach people how to live and transmit God’s word as a way of life.

This year, in view of the current situation, the celebration took place online. The SLRP youth council headed by their Parish Youth Council Coordinator, Kevin R. Dacuno, successfully held various virtual activities.

One of the activities that happened throughout the month is the Poster Making competition. The participants came from seven different districts, with each district having three youth participants working as a group. The posters were made in their respective homes and was submitted by the PSK Coordinators in the parish when it was done. Online voting was done for the People’s Choice Award through Facebook, with the winner having the greatest number of reactions on the uploaded photos of the poster entries. The judging of the posters was done at the SLRP Social Hall last January 30, 2021.

A virtual Bible Quiz Bee was also held via Google Meet to commemorate the celebration of the Bible month. Each district has a pair of participants working together per category; Category A is composed of children ages 10 to 12 years, and Category B with ages 13 to 17 years. They were given the chance to prove their wits and knowledge about the bible. The quiz bee has three rounds which are the easy, average, and difficult rounds.

Moreover, SLRP’s celebration of the Bible month featured different bible stories through a bible drama. Among all the activities, Bible drama wasn’t presented as a competition; however, it became one of the highlights of the celebration as presenters from different districts undoubtedly showcased their prowess and skills in acting. The presenters chosen per district are families living in the same household to ensure the safety of the presenters while practicing and recording their performances. The Bible Drama was pre-recorded before it was shown live on Facebook on the culmination day last January 31, 2021.

Despite the significant challenges we have today, it did not stop the youth of SLRP from celebrating the annual event and reaching more people for the Lord even during times when we are physically distanced. Indeed, resiliency and faith could bind us all together regardless of the circumstances we face.
