OLLP Bible month announces regular Sunday Masses in all GKKs
“This month, we celebrate the National Bible Month,” said Father Henry Campeon in his homily last January 24, during the GKK Mass at the Immaculate Conception Chapel in Kadayawan, Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Bangkal, Davao City.
“The celebration was actually not initiated by the Church,” continued Fr. Campeon, “it is in pursuant to the Presidential Proclamation No. 124, s. 2017, of our current government; and we are grateful that our government has this initiative”.
This Presidential Proclamation, declaring the National Bible Month in January every year has reference to the late President Ferdinand Marcos’ P.P. 2242, the late President Corazon Aquino’s P.P. 44, and former President Fidel Ramos’ 1067.
In this time of pandemic, Fr. Campeon reminded the parishioners to revisit the Bible. As in the Gospel Jesus called his disciples to follow him, “This quarantine gives us ample time to follow Jesus through the Bible and be reminded of his teachings despite the challenges of this dreadful pandemic,” uttered Fr. Campeon.
Because of our inconvenience brought about by this COVID-19, Fr. Campeon, Parish Priest, with his associate Fr. Arnulfo ‘Pong’ Cubero and resident priest Fr. Romeo Coronel, OSA, said that they will take their initiative to go to the parishioners to minimize the mass gathering in the Church.
Fr. Campeon announced that starting February, they will take turns administering Holy Masses in 25 GKKs every week. Two priests will be assigned to administer Holy Masses in 25 GKKs, while one will remain in the Church to administer the Holy Masses the whole day; and they will do the rotation of their Mass assignments every week.
The three priests decided to pursue said shifting of Mass assignments with the 25 GKKs to lessen huge gathering of parishioners in the Church, and to give chance for the elderly and the children to hear the Good News regularly every Sunday, just as Jesus took his initiative to invite his disciples to follow him.
GKK leaders were also reminded to ensure the proper implementation of the required minimum health protocols in all GKK Masses as prescribed by the IATF, and to ensure the safeties of all parishioners of the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Bangkal. (Vonz Hijada, OLLP Formator/SoCCom)
