Myanmar Cardinal Appeals with respect and hope
His Eminence, Charles Maund Bo, archbishop of the Archdiocese of Yangon, has addressed the present group of Myanmar military generals, led by General Wlain, who staged a coup d’etat, a power grab of State power, last February 01, 2021, appealing strongly for dialogue with the leaders of civilian protesters led by the Lady San Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace awardee, who have been arrested with others and detained in prison.
While international activist groups led by the Sec. Gen. of the United Nations Organization, have condemned the military take over of State power and government, Cardinal Bo’s emotional appeal, which appeared in a written document of the Federation of Asian Bishops Conferences (FABC) signed by him as FABC president, and sent to all Asian Bishops Conferences, should be worthy of support from fellow Asian bishops and all peace advocates.
The documented appeal shows knowledge and familiarity of the cardinal with the culture of his people which he recognizes and respects. He believes and hopes in the possibility of a solution and reconciliation but only through humble and respectful DIALOGUE, (yes, in capital letters!).
We support it with our prayers, international solidarity and strong advocacy.
