Prison Awareness Sunday

With the theme, “Restoring Hope and Healing during this Time of Pandemic through God’s Transforming Unconditional Love”, today’s prison awareness Sunday calls us to continue extending our hands to persons deprived of liberty (PDL). As many of us experience hurts and pains during this pandemic, our brothers and sisters PDL need our remembrance, prayers and material support as they live inside their cells hoping that they may be healed.

As we pray for healing, especially from the threat of COVID 19, we must return to faith in the goodness of others even when they commit crimes. The opportunity for conversion is always an offer for offenders. Concrete acts of forgiveness hasten their realization of God’s love for them.

“In Jesus’ eyes, healings are also a sign of spiritual salvation, namely liberation from sin. By performing acts of healing, he invites people to faith, conversion and the desire for forgiveness” (Redemptoris Missio 14).
