We can learn from birds

The words, Creation Spirituality, have been mentioned several times in this column. Once again we believe that birds, as part of God’s creation, show certain behavioral characteristics that are considered spiritual values intentionally programmed by the Creator. I chuckle and smile wondering if perhaps in the animal kingdom there is an equivalent of webinar and human resource seminar! To be sure, Creation has countless mysteries showing the Creator’s wisdom and power.

In the following description of birds flying in formation we can discern a lot of valuable lessons that can rightly be an important principle of our spirituality. For instance, social distancing and shared leadership, and others you can draw for yourselves, are easily discernible as values that can make any project successful. Let’s read on this amazing description, and learn.

“When birds have to fly to a warmer climate in winter, they flock together and start their journey as a collective. The success of the journey depends on this: the individual bird cannot reach the destination on its own. Birds fly in a particular formation, with appropriate spaces between them. If they fly too close to each other, their wings get entangled, they lose their balance and fall. If they are too far from each other, the accurate formation cannot be created, and they are not able to efficiently ride the currents of air that help propel them in flight. Interestingly, the leader of the formation does not remain the leader throughout the journey, but moves back and allows another to take its place. This repositioning continues until the destination is reached, allowing individual birds to contribute to the success of the endeavor” (Brahma Kumaris Meditation).
