Humanity Virtual Ride (HVR): Pedal It Out and Make Every Mile Count

“Humanity Virtual Ride (HVR): Pedal It Out and Make Every Mile Count” is a fund-raising activity of the Philippine Red Cross-Davao City Chapter. It is a 3-leg virtual bikeathon event which shall commence on September 1 and end on November 30, 2020. There is no specific venue. The participants can ride their bikes anywhere it is possible and safe, be it on the road, trail, or even indoors using trainers.

Each participant must complete the target distance in their chosen category (200 KM, 300 KM, or 400 KM) within the indicated period only (Leg 1-Sep 1-30, 2020; Leg 2-Oct 1-31, 2020; Nov 1-30, 2020). Registration fee is only Php900.00 per leg. Enumerated below are the objectives of this very important fundraiser:

• Generate funds to sustain the humanitarian efforts of the chapter;
• Promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage people to use bikes for fitness;
• Help reduce air pollutants, noise pollution, and congestion as bikes are environment-friendly mode of transport for work and other activities;
• Promote physical distancing to control the spread of COVID-19 since cycling is one of the non-contact outdoor sports allowed by the COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases. Biking also prevents people from crowding in PUJs and other mode of mass public transport;
• Promote the Red Cross humanitarian value and highlight the important role of humanity in countering the impact of the Covid-19 crisis;
• Instill the value of giving and sharing for the benefit of the most vulnerable.
