Giving Importance to Fathers

Fathers play an important role in one’s family. Aside from being the head and provider, he is also the leader that propels the future of his family. He is also a partner to his wife and a role model to his children. The above statements are just some of the responsibilities that a father assumes. But nowadays, a father may take over the responsibility of a mother for practical reasons. It could be that the wife is the one who is working and the father is left to tend the children and home. There are also the so called single fathers. It could be that they sired a child without the sacrament of marriage. They, then provide the needs of the child and has an agreement with the mother on days where he can be with his child.

Whether you are a father of a family or a single dad, what is important is that you take your responsibilities seriously and at the same time build happy memories with your family or with your child. By doing so your family will have someone they can depend on and at the same time will have somebody they can share happy moments. On the other hand, may fathers make St. Joseph as their model who always seek God’s wisdom at all times.

As we celebrate Father’s day this June 21, 2020, let us acknowledge the hardships done by our fathers for the sake of their families. Let us in return give importance to the love and care they showed us by giving them our utmost respect and affection.

Likewise, let us give thanks to the father of all, our God, our Abba who despite the pandemic we are facing right now continues to be merciful and loving. Let us acknowledge the presence of the Lord in this trying times who is still in control amidst Covid-19. Father God, you know what is best for us, thus we surrender everything to You.

On another note, I am sharing with you below, a prayer for fathers in our lives by Rev. Chuck Currie posted at Xavier University.

Fathers in Our Lives

We give our thanks, Creator God, for the fathers in our lives.

Fatherhood does not come with a manual, and reality teaches us that some fathers excel while others fail.
We ask for Your blessings for them all and forgiveness where it is needed.

This Father’s Day we remember the many sacrifices fathers make for their children and families, and the ways–both big and small–they lift children to achieve dreams thought beyond reach.

So too, we remember all those who have helped fill the void when fathers pass early or are absent; grandfathers and uncles, brothers and cousins, teachers, pastors and coaches and the women of our families.

For those who are fathers, we ask for wisdom and humility in the face of the task of parenting. Give them the strength to do well by their children and by You.
In Your Holy name, O God, we pray.

Amen.

Happy Fathers Day!
