Mothers’ Day

In our Ordo, the guide for liturgical celebrations in the Philippines, we are reminded to provide recognition to the celebration of “Mothers’ Day” without diminishing the primary focus of this Sunday as the celebration of the Paschal Mystery. It is also encouraged that there will be a prayer over the people as found in the rite of blessings. But since there are no Holy Masses with the public in attendance in most places today, we may join the prayers through our livestreaming and broadcast media.

Indeed, this month is dedicated to our Blessed Mother, Mary. With Flores de Mayo we instill in our children the devotion to Mary hoping to live her virtues. This Wednesday, during the Feast of the Our Lady of Fatima, there will be consecration to the Blessed Mother and Holy Eucharist in all dioceses throughout the country.

Let us show our devotion to Mama Mary by truly loving our earthly and biological mothers, by obeying them, serving them, being concerned about them, their health and struggles. Let us be grateful to them always for their sacrifices, to the elderly mothers, single mothers, sick mothers and working mothers. May we avoid anything that causes them sorrow and strive to offer them opportunities and reasons for rejoicing.
