Be Christ-like in times of Covid-19 crisis
Can people be as powerful as Christ in times like Covid-19 crisis? For the Archbishop of Davao Romulo G. Valles, yes, if one gives himself for others.
In his homily last Thursday April 23, the archbishop has likened the frontliners working against Covid-19 to the saint of the day, St. George who according to legend is a slayer of a dragon.
“What makes us so powerful to slay superhuman entities like dragons? Can we be slayers of dragons? I think so through the power of the risen Christ in us. We become more than we are because of the power of Christ,” the archbishop said in the Holy Mass live-streamed on DXGN 89.9 Spirit FM.
He added that the Coronavirus is like an unseen dragon that the frontliners are fighting.
“Can we slay, can we fight the fear of coronavirus? Can we face the other consequent dragons of this pandemia like hunger, poverty? Can the fronliners go back again and again to the hospital like slayers of an unseen dragon?” Archbishop Valles asked.
“One is powerful when he speaks the words of God, the thoughts of God, the sentiments of God,” the archbishop said quoting the first reading.
He also likened a person who can be powerful to a scientist who would work day and night, driven by the love for others, to discover the vaccine to end this pandemic.
He said that a person who is wholeheartedly help others like in bringing food packs for those affected by the crisis as a person who is powerful as he or she is driven by love.
“We slay dragons when we have the love, the capacity to care and compassion of the risen Christ in our hearts,” the archbishop ended. (JFF/DCHerald)
