Formation for the new set of GSL’s of OMPH Parish
The newly elected GKK Servant Leaders (GSL) of Zones 5 and 6 for calendar year 2020-2024 underwent a formation on February 21, 2020 starting at 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the 2nd Floor of the Parish Pastoral Building.
Fr. Jomil Baring CSsR, parish administrator together with Miguel A. Gaspe, a seminarian, shared their time and knowledge with the estimated eighty six (86) GSL’s.
Objective of having the formation is to equip the elected leaders in the administration of their respective duties. And Fr. Jomil believes that learning the various bible verse that supports the why’s of being a good leader is not just a better way of helping us but also in the faith journey of each one of us.
Not all of the leaders are new so it was expected that they more or less can answer the various questions that will be asked by Fr. Jomil however this was not the case. True there are some especially from the group of Pangulo sa Liturhiya (PSL) who were able to give their answers but those answers were not the one Fr. Jomil is looking for. Therefore what I said to myself to be a boring input turned out to be a very informative and very enlightening one.
Fr. Jomil was super ready in answering all our questions. So many words (new terms) were explained to us. Not only that, many misconceptions were corrected at that time.
The input focused on the Bible, its definitions and comparisons with the bible of other denominations, the various timelines, its large divisions (Old and New Testament). What was amazing for me and maybe for the majority is the reality of seeing the various samples of pictures for us all to see.
Another approach for us to be more attentive is the challenge for us in finding the verses he required for us to read to emphasize a given point of discussion. I understand what BCE (Before Common Era) and CE (Common Era) means now and how it was used by bible scholars in their various studies.
Brother Gaspe the seminarian was also good in his presentation about the “New Testament”. What I admired from him is his instruction to us to just focus on his presentation as gathered from his reference book to avoid confusion, doubts, for his source was also the one they used in their classroom. Whatever we may have gathered from outside source via internet still needs affirmation from authorized bodies, there are many changes that arises every year but for now what he shared was the most valid and accurate one.
And so our batch had made it to the first of the series of formation that the parish will be giving us. We are looking forward to the next schedule. (Marieta V. Comighud | OMPH Parish SoCCom)
