Catholics join Masses online amidst COVID-19 threat
Masses celebrated online and through traditional media have become the norm as the country is trying to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.
Since March 14, after Archbishop of Davao Romulo G. Valles announced the cancelation of public celebration of Holy Mass, online sites like DXGN 89.9 Spirit FM Facebook page have been streaming masses online for the benefit of the public.
Masses are celebrated in different areas and streamed online. Some Parishes like St. Joseph the Worker in Sasa, St. Francis Xavier in Tibungco, St. Francis of Assisi in Maa and Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish in Bajada are also live streaming their daily masses through their respective Facebook accounts and pages.
“It’s difficult and we are still adjusting to this arrangement,” said Andre, a mass-goer who has to face the computer screen to attend the mass online.
Proper attire and decorum are still required while attending online masses just like when attending with a congregation.
“Hopefully, this pandemic will end soon so that we can go back to our normal activities,” he said.
As Davao City and the entire Davao Region are trying to avoid the increase of infections with the dreaded virus, Catholics are urged to follow the Church’s and the Government’s mandates for their own health and safety.
