Healing priest dies of heart attack
Renowned healing priest Fr. Fernando Suarez has died of heart attack three days short before his 53rd birthday.
He died February 4, while playing his favorite sport, tennis. He celebrated his birthday February 7 during a tennis tournament that he organized.
He was brought to the Asian Hospital Medical Center but was declared dead at around 3:00 pm.
His remains lie at the Heritage Park Taguig Chapels from February 5-6 then were transferred in his hometown in Butong, Taal, Batangas. Interment schedule was yet to be announced as of this writing.
When he was still alive, Fr. Suarez is known for celebrating healing masses wherein many sick attendees were reportedly healed through his prayers and healing touch.
Though popular among the people, Fr. Suarez has encountered problems among bishops for various reasons with four dioceses namely Cubao, Lingayen-Dagupan, Malolos and Malaybalay prohibiting him from celebrating healing masses.
In a report posted in CBCP News, Bishop of Malaybalay Jose Cabantan has barred Fr. Suarez and his group from celebrating healing masses unless they have secured a permit or celebret issued by his local ordinary vouching for his good standing from the diocese or congregation he is affiliated.
“We ask their group to secure a ‘celebret’ or an endorsement from his bishop so we can allow him to celebrate Mass and do healing. But we have not received it,” the bishop said.
