People helping people: Davao helps earthquake victims
After the devastating tremors that hit some parts of Mindanao last October, the Archdiocese of Davao organized a campaign to help the victims.
Dubbed as Ta.Na. sa Digos ug Kidapawan or Tabang sa Nalinugan sa Digos ug Kidapawan is a campaign aiming to gather goods where donors can bring the relief operations center at San Pablo Parish Pavilion, Juna Subd., Matina, Davao City.
“This is an urgent appeal for help for our brothers and sisters in the Dioceses of Digos and Kidapawan who are seriously affected by the series of earthquakes which destroyed lives and properties,” Archbishop of Davao Romulo G. Valles said in his circular dated November 1.
The archbishop even visited the affected residents in North Cotabato together with Bishop of Kidapawan Jose Colin Bagaforo, Nov. 4.
“Due to the extent of the damage brought about by said earthquakes, I appeal again to you for more help to ease the sufferings and pains of our brothers and sisters,” the archbishop said, adding:
“They are in urgent need of foodstuffs (bottled water, water containers, rice and canned goods) and materials for temporary shelter like tents, mosquito nets, hygiene kits, etc.”
Cash and cheque donations may also be deposited through the Archdiocesan Social Action Center or through the BDO account of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Davao, Inc.
This campaign is also to ensure that the donations will be properly accounted and evenly distributed to those areas that are in dire need and especially those not yet reached by different groups for help.
Meanwhile, donors are advised to coordinate with the local government unit in North Cotabato or Davao del Sur to avoid untoward incidents of being mobbed by recipients of relief goods.
