The 5 First Saturday Devotion
In December 10, 1925, Sister Lucia, one of the visionaries of Fatima received yet another vision, where the Blessed Mother appeared alongside the Boy Jesus.
Our Lady’s hand rested on His shoulder while she held on another hand a heart pierced and encircled with thorns. Sister Lucia heard the Boy Jesus say, “Have pity on the Heart of your Most Holy Mother which is covered with thorns, with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment and with no one to make an act of reparation to take these out.”
Our Lady too spoke and said, “See, my daughter, my heart surrounded with thorns with which men pierce me at every moment with blasphemies and ingratitude. You, at least, make sure to console me and announce that all those who for five months, on first Saturdays, go to confession, receive communion, say five decades of the rosary and keep me company for 15 minutes meditating on the mysteries of the rosary, with the purpose of making reparation to Me, I promise to assist them at the hour of death with all the graces necessary for the salvation of their souls.”
Why 5 First Saturdays? Due to five reasons to repair which the Boy Jesus in a vision revealed in May 29 to 30 of 1930. These are: first, blasphemies against the Divine Motherhood and refusing to accept her as Mother of all men. Second, blasphemies against her virginity. Third, blasphemies against her Immaculate Conception. Fourth, creating hate and indifference in the hearts of children against the Immaculate Mother. Fifth, sacrileges or destroying her sacred images.
The devotion consists of: first, confession. In 1926, the Boy Jesus in a vision explained that confession could be made a week before or even more, and should be offered in reparation. Second, the Rosary said properly during the vocal prayers. Third, meditations of the decades of one or more mysteries of the rosary. And fourth, communion done with the intentions of making reparation to our Mother Mary.
Many of us have experienced the loving help and presence of Mama Mary. May we too be a source of comfort to her. Join your local parish or come every first Saturday at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Buhangin. There will be at 10:45am confession; 11am rosary; 11:30am Holy Mass. After the mass will be the investiture of the brown scapular. (Elvie Uraya)
