Happy World Teachers Day

teachers dayThe World Teachers Day is celebrated annually every 5th of October to honor those who are in the teaching profession to acknowledge their crucial role, loyal service and dedicated commitment in nation building.

This year, it bears the theme: “Gurong Pilipino: Handa sa Makabagong Pagbabago”.

More than a hundred nations celebrate with this event globally.

Never did it come to me when I was little that I will become a teacher someday. I grew up familiar with the profession because I was raised by my mother who is a retired teacher of the Department of Education.

At an early age, I knew it in me that teaching, as noble as it is, would not provide someone a good fortune. However, if you love teaching and molding the future of the children, you will feel satisfied and contented with the profession you choose.

Oftentimes, a teacher would passionately and sincerely extend an extra time for work, even without additional compensation. This includes preparing their lesson on the next day, making lesson plans, and digging through their minds what strategies would suit their students to help them digest lessons very well.

A teacher is also a coach for athletes and at the same time a guidance counsellor. It’s a fact that sometimes teachers would even question themselves on the quality of their teachings especially if the students get low scores or worse failed the subject.

Being a teacher makes you selfless especially in cases where you generously donate small earned money to students for their cause. In many cases, teachers assist students who are less fortunate so that he or she will not be absent during class.

I have witnessed this gesture from my mother who is a very devoted teacher who considers knowing that students will value lessons in life she imparted as a treasure. To her, it is important that as her students take on the road of reaching their goals in life and strive to reach their success, they must not forget the important teachings she has given them. These things ignite my desire to follow her footstep.

For me a teacher must be devoted to his or her craft and have the ability to mold the young minds to become responsible, productive and god fearing citizens in this nation.

We still look up to the words of our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, that “the youth is the hope of our nation”.

Our youth will be our future leaders. Remember that there will be no doctor, architect, engineer, nurse and other professions without the help of the teacher.

Salute to all fellow teachers. “HAPPY TEACHERS DAY” to us. (Jayson V. Badad)
