Quake hits DavOr a year after damaging quake

September 10, a magnitude 5.8 earthquake has hit Davao Oriental as reported by Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The epicenter was located 39 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental with the quake felt at 1:39 PM.

The earthquake was also felt in Mati City, which was celebrating its 82nd parochial fiesta of San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral.

It can be remembered that last September 8, 2018, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake in Manay has resulted to the damage in the facade of the parish of San Pedro Claver in Tarragona.

The front portion of the church has almost collapsed if not for the grills that supported it while some cracks were seen in the walls connected to the pillars of the sanctuary when the quake struck at 3:15 in the afternoon of September 8, 2018, the birthday of the Blessed Mother.

“We were like dribbled and shaken sideways when the earthquake happened. I saw how the plastering of the front walls collapsed. I was holding on the post and I worried for our safety,” said Fr. Mahinay during an interview with DCHerald in 2018.

Based on reports from St. Camillius Hospital in Mati, the earthquake felt was not as strong as last year.

Nurses, watchers and patients did not leave the hospital and just went outside their rooms unlike last year that they went outside the building.

As of this writing, no damages to property were reported.
