OLLP’s humble contribution to care for our common home
“Even before the fall, man is created to till and keep the garden of Eden, to imitate God’s work in creation. Care for our earth is not just an Earth Day Slogan, it is a requirement of our faith.”
To highlight the occasion on September 01, which was declared as World Day of Prayer for the care of creation, the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Bangkal, Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) led by Rev. Fr. Leonie H. Espana, DCD, Parish Priest and Episcopal Vicar for the Clergy of the Archdiocese of Davao, implemented the plan of planting four grafted mango fruit trees at the church’s vicinity after the 07:30 a.m. mass.
The idea was presented by Bro. Nestor D. Fruto , PPC Lay Coordinator, before the members of the Parish Pastoral Council last August 4, PPC regular monthly meeting.
To make the activity more meaningful, seedlings courtesy of Bro. Ruben Sumagang, Parish PSL Coordinator were offered at the 07:30 a.m. mass where the attendance of PPC members were also required.
“Let the earth bring forth vegetation: every kind of fruit tree on earth that bears fruit with its seed in it.” (Genesis 1:11)
One way of showing respect for the Creator, is being a good steward of His creation. (Vinny G. Bajo | OLLP SoCCom)
