DPWH Davao District joins Int’l Coastal Clean-up
DAVAO CITY — Personnel from the Department of Public Works and Highways Davao City District Engineering Office and Philippine Coast Guard joined in the International Coastal Clean-up Drive September 20.
More than 200 personnel from the two agencies were deployed to participate in the clean-up held at the coastal barangay of Barangay Centro in Agdao, Davao City.
Garbage like old clothing, spring beds and other materials were removed and excavated along the shorelines of the said barangay.
Engr. Emilio P. Sucaldito, Jr., the head of the team from the DPWH DCDEO said the coastal clean-up is the agency’s contribution to saving the environment.
Residents of the said barangay expressed their gratitude to the DPWH DCDEO and the agencies who participated in helping the clean-up of their shores.
It can be remembered that there are reports of marine animals like whales and turtles who died due to consumption of garbage.
Pope Francis’ prayer intention for the month of September is intended for protecting the oceans, saying, “politicians, scientists and economists work together to protect the world’s seas and oceans.”
Meanwhile, Sucaldito said that through the task of cleaning up the shores is big, their small contribution is a small step towards that goal.
