Scout is Reverent
In forming a God-centered individual, adult leaders and senior scouts of Talomo National High School participated in the holy mass in time for the opening of the Basic Skills Training for Adults in Scouting sanctioned by the Boy Scouts of the Philippines Davao City Council on August 10-11, 2019.
The mass was presided by Fr. Joel Caasi of San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish. He emphasized to always begin with God in any activity to be conducted.
In his homily, he talked about his life as a scout and experiences in his childhood. He has joined many jamborees, one of them is in Chile, South America where the activity molded him to become a more effective leader.
He also challenged every participant to be morally upright all the time as he shared as well the life of St. Lawrence the Deacon of Rome, Italy.
Saint Lawrence (feast day August 10) is one of the most venerated Roman martyrs celebrated for his Christian valour, the Encyclopedia Britannica describes. He is the patron saint of the poor and of cooks.
It is said that Lawrence gave the church’s treasures to the poor and the sick before his arrest. He was roasted to death on a gridiron, remarking to his torturers at one point, ‘I am cooked on that side, turn me over, and eat.’ A meaningful account for the participants to ponder.
The mass really enlightened everyone that church really plays a vital role in forming individuals. Fr. Caasi ended the mass in congratulating the participants in advance and thanking the organizers for inviting him to grace the training. (Elmer T.
