Heroes in our midst
Every country in this world has its own heroes. These are the men and women who displayed the virtues of courage, perseverance, audacity, fortitude and most of all, the love for their people and their very homeland. Many of them paid with their lives if only to realize their dreams for their fellowmen. Such display of generosity and benevolence is etched in the minds and hearts of the many from generation to generation.
In our Church, we call them saints. They are models whose ways in loving God may differ but similar in fervor and devotion as they corresponded to God’s grace. Therefore, they are worthy of emulation and public veneration; moreover, these saints continue to work wonders for those who call upon them for intercession.
Today, countless heroic acts happen in the factories, laboratories, fields, barracks, classrooms, even right in the middle of our family life interaction. These sacrifices raise up the Church and becomes more pleasing to God. Let us count our blessings as we continue to correspond to our super-generous God who enables us to fulfill these acts of heroism. We just don’t know it, but we are on our way to becoming saints. Holy Mary, Help of Christians, pray for us.
