CDRRMO focuses on conducting more drills in the future
DAVAO CITY – During the third (3rd) Citywide Shakeout Drill last July 26, Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) chief Alfredo Baluran, remarked that there should be more drills done in terms of disaster preparedness especially in coastal areas in the city.
In his statement, he said that monitoring cameras are installed to notify the residents living ashore if there is an indicating tsunami wherein it could detect possible water movements.
“Kung naa ma’y mahitabo na mga tsunami, ma-advance nato og pahibalo ang mga tao na based on our monitoring cameras na naa sa atong opisina,” Baluran explained.
He also described the camera’s high range zooming which is up to 5 kilometers.
Although, there are some who do not actively cooperate in the said drill, majority are the ones who wanted to be part and be educated.
“Mas daghan ang gusto makat-on ug makahibalo kung asa sila padulong just in case naay mahitabo nga tsunami,” he added.
The monitoring cameras are installed in the coastal areas of Matina Aplaya, Toril, Tibungco and Agdao.
CDDRMO’s future upgrades are expected to be done to secure the coastal areas in Davao City. (Arviejay Ranido | MassCom Intern)
