Employees of God
Excerpt of the Homily of the Most Rev. Romulo Valles, D.D., Archbishop of Davao during the 3rd year anniversary of DXGN 89.9 SpiritFM at the San Pablo Parish, Matina, Davao City.
In Davao, there is no doubt, the DXGN is helping everyone to keep their faith. There is no need to put many words into it but this world is getting more and more secular. This world is getting to be more conceited as if we can stand without God.
But DXGN is among the instruments that reminds us every minute of the day that we are just creatures to keep the faith in the Lord.
That’s why when the Holy Father said, “keep the faith,” DXGN, in a wonderful way, does that! That is the ministry of DXGN.
Now, I would like to address to the workers, the ones operating the station. It is a technical job in a sense, skills in a sense. And that skill to be in a radio station is done by many others with the same skill in many other radio stations. It is a common thing, how many stations do we have in Davao? There are many. But only you, only you explicitly, and very consciously tells the people of Davao of the presence of the Lord in our daily lives.
St. Paul, in the reading, was discussing with the very sophisticated Corinthians, the educated and learned residents of a Cosmopolitan city. Paul was very careful and philosophical when talking to the Corinthians.
The middle of the reading, Paul said, ‘Therefore, since we have this ministry through the mercy shown us, we are not discouraged.’
But, I like the Bisaya better. “Busa wala kami kawad-i sa kasibot, kay ang Diyos, sa iyang kaluoy naghatag man kanamo niining trabahoa.”
My dear people in DXGN, it is not the Archdiocese employing you, it is not Fr. Ritsche, it is not Valles.
“Kay ang Diyos, sa iyang kaluoy naghatag man kanamo niining trabahoa.”
Please, keep that sincere sense of mission to remind our people God’s presence in our lives today. In that sense, with a challenge, I’d like to thank you. I am very proud of DXGN and I pray that this will flourish and do more service to our people.
