Episcopal Installation of Bishop-Elect Ronald Lunas

On February 11, 2019, the ordination ceremony of Bishop-Elect Ronald Lunas as the 5th bishop of the Diocese of Pagadian was held in the Cathedral of Mary, Mother and Mediatrix of Grace, Diocese of Digos and was witnessed by thousands of Catholic faithfuls coming from the Diocese of Digos, Archdiocese of Davao, and Diocese of Pagadian.

On March 25, 2019, Bishop Ronald Lunas will be installed as the 5th Bishop of the Diocese of Pagadian. The installation ceremony will be held in the Sto. Niño Cathedral of Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.

In the language of the Church, this installation ceremony means Bishop Lunas is taking canonical possession of the Diocese of Pagadian which is entrusted to him by the Holy Father, Pope Francis.

In the Code of Canon Law, Article 2 Can.382:3 provides that “A Bishop takes canonical possession of his diocese, when personally he shows the apostolic letters to the college of consultors, in the presence of the chancellor of the curia, who makes a record of the fact and this must take place within the diocese he will be canonized with”. This is performed with liturgical act or Eucharistic Celebration.

This installation of Bishop Lunas would also mean that finally Bishop Lunas can start “bishoping” or shepherding the 24 parishes under the Diocese of Pagadian and the educational centers as well which comprised of one seminary, one college, 16 high schools, and 6 pre-schools.
