Let the children play
Sports for Peace Program reaches out to children in grassroots
Believing that promoting peace can be done through sports and the children, the Sports for Peace Program of the Philippine Sports Commission has partnered with the Knights of Columbus 9573, the officers of Skyline Phase 3 Subdivision to stage the Children’s Games for the children of informal settlers.
The games were held December 23, two days before Christmas at the Skyline Phase 3 Subdivision.
Patintero, hilahang lubid and other Pinoy games were staged to the delight of the 50 children participating.
“We let them play, we give them t-shirts, we give them food,” said Eduardo R. Fernandez, Philippine Sports Commission Consultant and resident of the subdivision that organized the event.
He said that they invited the children who are informal settlers to participate and to give joy this Christmas.
Together with the different partners, they shared in the responsibility of promoting peace through games and sports for children.
“Together we can. Love the children, they are the real gold,” Fernandez quipped.
The Sports for Peace Program children’s games was also held last December 22 at the St. Francis of Assisi Parish in La Verna, Davao City with 171 children participating.
Fr. Pedro Lamata, parish priest, co-organized the said event together with the Philippine Sports Commission and partners.
