COMELEC gears up for the election period
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Davao Region says it is in full coordination with other government agencies to ensure a smooth sailing election period which started January 13 until June 12, 2019.
According to lawyer Krisna Samantha Caballero, spokesperson of Comelec-Davao, they are closely looking into the peace and order of the region for the whole period especially with the full implementation of the gun ban which began yesterday as well.
“We are already fixing security issues as early as now. Just recently, we conducted our regional coordinating conference together with the Philippine Army, our police officers, Task Force Davao, and other government agencies for a smooth run of the election period,” she said.
Caballero also cited that more seminars and trainings for the electoral board will be held for them to be prepared.
The Comelec also continues to prepare trainings for the public school teachers who will be tapped on the election day.
“Series of conferences and meetings are still to be conducted to ensure an orderly and peaceful 2019 elections,” Caballero said.
Meanwhile, caballero called the voters to check if their names are delisted ahead of time to be able to have enough time for their questions and complaints to be addressed.
For the delisted voters, the list will be posted as early as February or March, according to Caballero.
According to Comelec’s data, there are 3 million total registered voters in the region as of the October 2018.
For the city, there are 948,000 – 950,000 total registered voters. (Julianne A. Suarez)
